Edward Gouge (fl.1690 - d.1735). Oil painting on canvas, Sir John Stonehouse, 3rd Bt (1673-1733) by Edward Gouge (fl.1690 - d.1735), 1700-20. A three-quarter-length portrait of a young man, standing, turned slightly to right, head facing slightly left, gazing at the spectator. In powdered shoulder-length wig, wearing a blue velvet collarless frock-coat with wide cuffs and pockets, gold-embroidered waistcoat, long white lace neckcloth and lace shirt cuffs, a sword on his left. His left arm is bent and the hand rests on his waist, his right holds a slender white wand of office of Comptroller to the Household of Queen Anne. Set in a dark architectural background with an arch/niche on the left. Lyme Park, Cheshire (Accredited Museum)
