Title
Mr Claude Robinson, one of the original Jarrow marchers, with organisers Simon Osborn (left) and Richard Haswell (right) while Liz Brailsford holds the petition box. Alan Hull from the pop group Lindisfarne is picture to right of Claude. The steps of the historic Jarrow Crusade are to be retraced later this year - in another desperate bid to bring jobs to Tyneside. The modern day hunger marchers are to carry a new petition for work to Downing Street, which pleads for exactly the same as the original did 50 years ago. A new campaign to capture the spirit of the crusade, called Jarrow '86, was officially launched yesterday - with old and new marchers lending the scheme their support. The '86 march will set off from Jarrow on October 5 - exactly 50 years after the first demonstration took to the roads with 200 jobless men. This time, ten people from Jarrow will begin the walk, with others joining from every constituency through which the parade passes, following the original route. 13/08/1986 (b/w photo)
