Aristide Maillol was a French sculptor, painter, and printmaker born on December 8, 1861, in Banyuls-sur-Mer, France. He studied painting at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris but later turned to sculpture. Maillol's work was influenced by the classical Greek and Roman art, and he is known for his simplified, rounded forms that convey a sense of calm and serenity. He was also a prolific painter and printmaker, creating works that were often inspired by his sculptures.
