English huntsman in hunting pinks and boots examining a fox in a cage by candlelight, 19th century. Facey Romford receiving a bag fox from Willia Watkins. A maid in apron and petticoats watches. This is a pretty present for a Master of Hounds to receive. Handcoloured steel engraving after an illustration by John Leech from Robert Smith Surtees’ Mr. Facey Romford’s Hounds, Bradbury, Evans and Co., London, 1865. Leech (1817-1864) was an English caricaturist and illustrator best known for his work for Punch magazine.
