Oil painting on canvas, Lady Anne Egerton, Duchess of Bedford, later Countess of Jersey (c.1704/9-1762) by a follower of Sir Godfrey Kneller (Lübeck 1646/9 - London 1723). Painted oval. Half-length portrait of a young woman, turned slightly to the right, head turned to the left, wearing a black dress with a white chemise seen at the neckline and a black veil over her hair at the back of her head, probably widows weeds. Shown here as widow of Wriothesley, 3rd Duke of Bedford (1708-1732). Painted in an oval and inscribed. Lady Anne Egerton was born 1704/9, the daughter of Scroop Egerton, 1st Duke of Bridgwater (1681-1744/5) and Lady Elizabeth Churchill (1687-1713/4) daughter of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough. She married, (i) Wriothesley Russell, 3rd Duke of Bedford (1708-1732), son of Wriothesley Russell, 2nd Duke of Bedford (1680-1711)and Elizabeth Howland, on 22 April 1725 at Ashbridge, Buckinghamshire and (ii) William Villiers, 3rd Earl of Jersey (d.1769), son of William Villiers, 2nd Earl of Jersey (c.1682-1721) and Judith Herne (d.1735), on 23 June 1733 at St. James's, Westminster. She died on 16 June 1762. She was buried on 22 June 1762 at Middleton Stoney, Oxfordshire Belton House, Lincolnshire (Accredited Museum)
