Her National Geographic Magazine stories include Living With Radiation, Viruses-On the Edge of Life, Oil on Ice, Human Migration, Women & Population, Aging-New Answers to Old Questions, Secrets of the Gene, AIDS-Search for a Cure and War on Disease. National Geographic awarded Karen their prestigious Photographer in Residence position, leading to her first book IMPACT: From the Front lines Karen Kasmauski's work explores science, environment, public health, and global change issues. Karen is intrigued by how science allows us to understand ourselves and how that understand shapes our destiny. Karen has worked extensively in Japan and co-produced a 30-minute documentary film, Fall Seven Times, Get Up Eight, which told the story of Japanese War Brides through the voices of three women, one of them Karen’s mother, who journeyed from Japan to America during the postwar years.
