Light, watery touches of paint have been used to build up the image, and to suggest the fleeting effects of light, changing from moment to moment. Rowland Hill was a member of the Staithes Group of artists, who were influenced by the paintings of French Impressionist artists, such as Claude Monet. Rowland Hill lived and worked mainly in Yorkshire.
