Artemisia Gentileschi was an Italian Baroque painter born in Rome in 1597. She was the daughter of the painter Orazio Gentileschi and was trained by him in his workshop. Artemisia became one of the most accomplished painters of her time, known for her powerful depictions of women and biblical scenes. She was the first woman to be accepted into the Accademia di Arte del Disegno in Florence, and her work was highly sought after by patrons throughout Europe. Artemisia's life was marked by personal and professional challenges, including a highly publicized rape trial in which she was the victim.
