Image description

Organised by the ‘Daily Telegraph’ in conjunction with the Red Cross and St John War Organisation. The exhibition held at Clarence House was created to give the public a closer insight into the lives of those held in German captivity and to demonstrate the help the Red Cross is giving them. It contains information and images about life in the POW camps and a list of the items and artworks made by the prisoners. S/Sgt Trimmer’s model locomotive is listed in ‘Hut 2’ along with an image of it. From a collection of 18 letters, POW newspapers and booklets relating to S/Sgt Ernest John Trimmer, Royal Army Ordnance Corps, who was taken prisoner of war in 1941. S/Sgt Trimmer was held in POW Camp Stalag 383 in Hohenfels, Germany, and whilst there he built a model locomotive which was displayed at the Prisoner of War Exhibition in Clarence House in 1944. Associated with World War Two, POWs (1939-1945).
