British (English) School. Oil painting on panel, Presumed to be Walter Jones MP (1550-1632), British (English) School, inscribed: AETATATIS SUAE 64 R ANNO DNI R/ 1614/ HOMO BULLA PILVIS ET UMBRA. This inscription has similarly been added or renewed (the latin means; "Man [is] a bubble, dust, and shadow"). A three-quarter length portrait of an elderly man, standing, turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, wearing black wide-brimmed hat and tunic with white ruff. Holds gloves in right hand and rolled document inscribed CAMERA STELLATA (Star Chamber) in left hand. An Edward Jones (no relation) was appointed Clerk to the Court in 1608, which might suggest it repesents him rather than Walter, builder of the house. Chastleton House, Oxfordshire (Accredited Museum)
