William Cooper first exhibited at Heffer’s Gallery, Cambridge, while an undergraduate at Corpus Christi College.<br />

Following war service in India William Cooper embarked on a successful career as a schoolmaster at Sherborne, maintaining his artistic career and initially specialising in collage and mixed media. A series of London scenes from this period has been widely acclaimed and reproduced.<br />

In 1973 he had his first solo show at the Drian Gallery, and was also elected to the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol. He was elected to the council in 1991 and se William Cooper first exhibited at Heffer’s Gallery, Cambridge, while an undergraduate at Corpus Christi College.<br />

He was elected to the council in 1991 and served as Artist Chairman of the Academy from 1993 to 1998. Since retiring he paints full time, working in both oils and acrylic. The Cornish landscape and particularly the St. Ives school have been strong influences.<br />
<br />
William Cooper has won various prizes in open competitions, exhibited widely in galleries, the RA and the RWA, including solo exhibitions at St. Johns, Smith Square, and the Bloomsbury Gallery in London. His work is represented both publicly and privately in the UK, USA and Australia and has been reproduced frequently on greetings cards, book and magazine covers and prints.<br />
