Louis Carrogis, better known as Carmontelle, was a French artist born in Paris in 1717. He was a painter, playwright, and designer, known for his portraits, landscapes, and theatrical productions. Carmontelle was a versatile artist who worked in various mediums, including pastels, watercolors, and ink. He began his career as a painter and became a member of the Académie de Saint-Luc in 1749. He later worked as a designer for the Duke of Orleans and created several gardens and parks in France. Carmontelle was also a playwright and wrote several comedies and operas.
