Image description: Sonora Webster Carver (February 2, 1904 – September 20, 2003) lost her sight in 1931 due to a retinal detachment during a dive, but continued to perform until 1942. From 1929 her act was based on Atlantic City, New Jersey's Steel Pier. Disney produced a movie about her life in 1990 titled "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken." The ACAH holdings include more than 1140 collections of business records, personal papers, and visual, magnetic and electronic documents related to the mission of the National Museum of American History, especially the history of American music, advertising and marketing, and technology and invention.
