Look and Learn was a British weekly educational magazine for children, published from 1962 - 1982. Over 15,000 of the best illustrations are available via Bridgeman for image licensing.
Look and Learn originated as a British weekly educational magazine for children, published from 1962 until 1982. Britain already had a long history of producing periodicals for children, but Look and Learn sought to ignite the imaginations of its young audience. With universal appeal, these images are suitable for licensing for a wide range of purposes from academic publishing to retro inspired products.
Taking inspiration from history, nature, world religions, science and literature, images for the magazine were provided by some of the best illustrators of the twentieth century. Specially commissioning all of its content, contributors included Peter Jackson, Ron Embleton, and C. L. Doughty.

Picturing the Past Our most requested Look and Learn images often feature historical subjects revealing one of its greatest strengths; the ability to illustrate moments not recorded on camera. From dinosaurs to the Second World War, the magazine’s illustrators sought to portray history at its most dynamic and engaging. Exclusive to Bridgeman Portraits of some of history’s most famous (or infamous) figures have also proved popular. From Ivan the Terrible to scientist Rudolf Diesel, Bridgeman is the only commercial image library through which these images are available. |

Myth and Legend
Designed to appeal to children, it is no wonder that Look and Learn found much inspiration in a rich, international heritage of myth, legend, and religious stories. Pinpointing well-loved children’s classics, literature’s greatest heroes and villains are brought to life with vivid, brightly coloured illustrations. Robin Hood, Long John Silver and St. George and the Dragon have all graced the pages of Look and Learn, inspiring a generation of readers.

NEW Material: Vintage Postcards from 1913
Whilst Look and Learn is primarily an archive of illustration, it is also home to unique, original artwork. One of Bridgeman’s newest additions is a quirky collection of vintage postcards from 1913.
This set of black and white photography captures the innocence of the Edwardian era, forming a poignant snapshot of Europe poised on the brink of devastating conflict. Perfect for captions and with vintage very much in trend, these postcards are uniquely available through Bridgeman for licensing.

Although these themes offer a broad snapshot of the artwork available through Look and Learn, they provide only a hint of the breadth of this collection. In addition to the more than 15,000 already in the archive, 11,000 new Look and Learn images are expected to be available via the Bridgeman website in early 2013.
