The Royal Mail unveils special Charles Dickens stamps

Illustrations by Joseph Clayton Clarke were sourced from the Bridgeman Art Library to commemorate Dickens' 200th anniversary in the U.K.

The set of six stamps, issued to mark the bicentenary of Dickens' birth this month, feature iconic characters from his novels including Oliver Twist and The Pickwick Papers.

Independent stamp designer Howard Brown designed the stamps using images sourced from the Bridgeman archive.

Joseph Clayton Clarke was an illustrator, designer of cigarette cards and postcards in the nineteenth century.  The images are from our Look and Learn collection.
