Collection Spotlight: Duke of Northumberland

Bridgeman Images is delighted to announce that they are now representing the Collection of the Duke of Northumberland. Accrued over four centuries reflecting the passions and patronage of the Percy family, it is one of the UK’s greatest private collections.

Significant among the paintings are works, principally by artists of the Italian Renaissance, acquired by Algernon, 4th Duke of Northumberland in the 1850s to adorn the State Rooms of the then newly-restored Alnwick Castle.  Many of these survive in the collection today including works by Titian, Palma Vecchio, Guido Reni, Andrea del Sarto and Claude Lorrain.

High quality portraiture includes paintings by Sir Anthony Van Dyck, William Dobson, Gilbert Stuart, Sir Thomas Lawrence and Philip de László.

The Collection is housed at Alnwick Castle, Northumberland and Syon House, London, both of which are open to the public.
