The School of Oriental and African Studies, a college of the University of London, was founded in 1916. It is one of the leading academic institutions concerned with the languages and cultures of Asia, Africa and the near and Middle East. Their art collection hails predominantly from Asia and features some exquisite 18th century watercolours of stock characters from the Ottoman Empire, a magnificent scroll detailing a 17th century procession of the Sixth Korean Embassy to Japan as well as Japanese prints and Chinese paintings.
