Art Buyer interviews Bridgeman Art Library

Retro trends, what's new...

Art Buyer is a dedicated magazine for the global Art Licensing industry, recently purchased by the UK-based Lema Publishing. The magazine is focused on providing an effective news forum and promotional service for everyone involved in the business of Art Licensing.

Editor, Jacqui Parr met with Bridgeman earlier this year to discuss key trends and themes which could be identified for 2009, bearing in mind the current financial climate and other social and economic factors including the changing retail market. Imagery discussed included retro public information posters, social documentary photography from the 1940s, botanical illustration and stained glass angels appropriate for the Christmas market.

Monkey Magic
One of Henri Rousseu's exotic jungle paintings was selected for the Art Buyer cover due to its mass appeal to children and adults alike. The bright colours and strong graphic quality are ideal for licensing on products and the dramatic subject matter offers a dream of escape from humdrum reality to many urbanites.

2010 also marks 100 years since Rousseau's death so there is a significance in revisiting this popular artist.  Fashion led art comes and goes but the classics never lose their appeal!
