Terraformation de Mars - Illustration - Terraformed Mars - Illustration: Terraformation aims to transform the natural environment of a planet, a moon or another body, in order to bring together the conditions for a life of an earthly type, which is therefore habitable by man. The terraforming of a planet, moon or other body, is the hypothetical process of deliberately modifying its atmosphere, temperature, or ecology to be similar to those of Earth in order to make it habitable by humans. Here, astronauts on Phobos are watching martian oceans
Exoplanete Kepler-186f - Kepler-186f, the first Earth-size Planet in the Habitable Zone: Kepler-186f is the first Earth-size planet in the habitable zone of its star to be discovered. It orbits Kepler-186, a red dwarf located in the constellation of Swan, between 490 and 500 light years of the Earth. Kepler-186f, the first Earth-size Planet in the Habitable Zone. The artist's concept depicts Kepler-186f, the first validated Earth-size planet to orbit a distant star in the habitable zone - a range of distance from a star where liquid water might pool on the planet's surface. The discovery of Kepler-186f confirms that Earth-size planets exist in the habitable zones of other stars and signals a significant step closer to finding a world similar to Earth. The size of Kepler-186f is known to be less than ten percent larger than Earth, but its mass, composition and density are not known. Previous research suggests that a planet the size of Kepler-186f is likely to be rocky. Prior to this discovery, the “” record holder”” for the most “” Earth-like”” planet went to Kepler-62F, which is 40 percent larger than the size of Earth and orbits in its star's habitable zone. Kepler-186f orbits its star once every 130 days and receives one-third the energy that Earth does from the sun, placing it near the outer edge of the habitable zone. If you could stand on the surface of Kepler-186f, the brightness of its star at high noon would appear as bright as our sun is about an hour before sunset on Earth. Kepler-186f resides in the Kepler-186 system about 500 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cygnus. The system is also home to four inner planets, seen lined up in orbit around a host star that is half the size and mass of the sun
Exoplanet kepler 22b - Illustration - Kepler - 22b is an exoplanet orbiting Kepler - 22, a star of spectral type G5, similar to the Sun, located about 620 years - light (190 pc) from the Solar System in the constellation of Swan. This is the first planet discovered by the Kepler space telescope in the habitable area of a yellow dwarf in December 2011. This artist's design illustrates Kepler - 22b, a planet known to comfortably circle in the habitable zone of a sun - like star. It is the first planet that Nasa's Kepler mission has confirmed to orbit in a star's habitable zone - - the region around a star where liquid water, a requirement for life on Earth, could persist. The planet is 2.4 times the size of Earth, making it the smallest yet found to orbit in the middle of the habitable zone of a star like our sun. Scientists do not yet know if the planet has a predominantly rocky, gaseous or liquid composition. It's possible that the world would have clouds in its atmosphere, as depicted here in the artist's interpretation

This experimental habitable module should allow for two years to test the technique of inflatable space habitat. The Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM) is seen attached to the Tranquility module of the International Space Station. BEAM is an experimental expandable habitat. Expandable habitats, occasionally described as inflatable habitats, greatly decrease the amount of transport volume for future space missions. These “” expandables”” weigh less and take up less room on a rocket while allowing additional space for living and working. They also provide protection from solar and cosmic radiation, space debris, and other contaminants. Crews traveling to the moon, Mars, asteroids, or other destinations could use them as habitable structures

Exoplanete Kepler - 62f - Kepler - 62f is an exoplanet orbiting Kepler - 62, a star located about 1200 years from the Solar System in the constellation Lyra. Kepler - 62f is a super Earth located in the living area of its star. In this illustration, the bright star on the right of the planet is Kepler - 62nd. This artist's concept depicts in the foreground planet Kepler - 62f, a super - Earth - size planet in the habitable zone of its star which is seen peeking out from behind the right edge of the planet. The small shining object farther to the right is Kepler - 62e which orbits on the inner edge of the habitable zone of the star. If someday in the distant future we landed on the right spot on Kepler - 62f, just before “” sunrise”” we'd be treated to a lovely view of Kepler - 62e as a “” morning star”” much like Venus often appears for us on Earth
Exoplanete Kepler-452 b - Artist's impression of the Kepler-452 b exoplanet: Kepler-452 b is an extrasolar planet probably of the Earth type, located in the habitable area of its star Kepler-452, a star similar to our Sun. This super-earth is located in the constellation Swan, about 1400 light years from Earth. This artist's concept depicts one possible appearance of the planet Kepler-452b, the first near-earth-size world to be found in the habitable zone of star that is similar to our sun. The habitable zone is a region around a star where temperatures are right for water to pool on the surface. Scientists do not know if Kepler-452b can support life or not. What is known about the planet is that it is about 60 percent larger than Earth, placing it in a class of planets dubbed “” Super-earths.”” While its mass and composition are not yet determined, previous research suggests that planets the size of Kepler-452b have a better than even chance of being rocky. Kepler-452b orbits its star every 385 days. The planet's star is about 1,400 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus. It is a G2-type star like our sun, with almost the same temperature and mass. This star is 6 billion years old, 1.5 billion years older than our sun

Futuristic advertising poster for tourism on Trappist-1e - Illustration - Futuristic Advert for tourism on Trappist-1e - Illustration: Advertising promoting tourism on Trappist-1e. This exoplanet is orbiting in the habitable zone of the star system TRAPPIST-1, a red dwarf star located at a distance of about 40 light years from the Sun in the constellation Aquarius. At least seven exoplanets the size of the Earth orbit this star. Some 40 light-years from Earth, a planet called Trappist-1e offers a heart-stopping view: brilliant objects in a red sky, looming like larger and smaller versions of our own moon. But these are no moons. They are Earth-sized planets in a spectacular planetary system outside our own. These seven rocky worlds huddle around their small, dim, red star, like a family around a campfire. Any of them could harbor liquid water, but the planet shown here, fourth from the TRAPPIST-1 star, is in the habitable zone, the area around the star where liquid water is most likely to be detected. This system was revealed by the Transiting Planets and PlaneteSimals Small Telescope (TRAPPIST) and Nasa's Spitzer Space Telescope. Take a planet-hopping excursion through the TRAPPIST-1 system.
Gl 581c: discovery of a habitable planet - Gl 581c: discovery of an habitable planet - Artist's view of the exoplanet Gliese 581c. Gliese 581c, with a radius of 1.5 times that of the Earth, is the first exoplanet gathering the necessary elements to imagine the existence of a possible extra-terrestrial life. From its surface, its star, about 100 times less bright than our Sun, must be large in the sky because of its proximity to the planet. In April 2007 the Geneva Observatory in Switzerland announced the discovery of a “super - earth”” extrasolar planet orbiting the red dwarf star Gliese 581. Dubbed Gliese 581 c, it's been called a super - earth because it is one of the few known extrasolar planets that has a mass near Earth's, and the only one to occupy its sun's “” habitable zone.”” Gliese 581 c is believed to be about five times more massive than the Earth with a diameter about half - again as large as Earth's. Depending upon the planet's composition, whether mostly rock or a combination of rock a water, a visitor would experience a surface gravity between 1.25 to 2.2 times the Earth's. Gliese 581 c is about 20 light years away, a “” next door neighbor”” in stellar terms, but far beyond the reach of human visitors with today's technology. There is special interest in Gliese 581 c because it is the only known extrasolar planet where liquid water - - a necessary ingredient for life as we know it - - could exist. Surface temperatures are believed to range between the freezing point of water to about 100* F. However, there are other factors that could affect these values, including the possibility that Gliese 581 c always keeps the same side facing its host star, with the result that one side would become extremely hot while the other extremely cold. In this image from the surface of Gliese 581 c, its red dwarf host hangs low in the sky over a rocky and watery terrain. This sun has a diameter and radius about a third that of the earth

Jupiter Icy Moon Explorer (JUICE) Probe - Artist's view - Jupiter Icy Moon Explorer or JUICE (formerly JGO and EJSM/Laplace) is a space mission of the European Space Agency to be launched in 2022 towards the moons of Jupiter by an Ariane 5 rocket. This space probe is to study by flying over them several times three of the ice moons of Jupiter - Callisto, Europe and Ganymede. The Jupiter iY moons Explorer (JUICE) is an interplanetary spacecraft in development by the European Space Agency (ESA). The mission is being developed to visit the Jovian system focused on studying three of Jupiter's Galilean moons: Ganymede, Callisto, and Europa all of which are thought to have significant bodies of liquid water beneath their surfaces, making them potentially habitable environments. The spacecraft is set for launch in 2022 and would reach Jupiter in 2030

This exoplanet is orbiting in the habitable area of the Starsystem Kepler-16 (AB), an Algol-type binary star located at a distance of about 200 light years from the Sun in the constellation of Swan. An astronaut could contemplate a double sunset. Like Luke Skywalker's planet “” Tatooine””” in Star Wars, Kepler-16b orbits a pair of stars. Described here as a terrestrial planet, Kepler-16b might also be a gas giant like Saturn. Prospects for life on this unusual world aren't good, as it has a temperature similar to that of dry ice. But the discovery indicates that the movie's iconic double-sunset is anything but science fiction.

The innermost planet is most likely rocky, while the outermost is the first known Neptune - mass planet to reside in the habitable zone. This unique system is likely further enriched by an asteroid belt. This view portaits a point of view inside the asteroid belt, which is assumed here to lie between the two outermost planets

Probe Jupiter Ganymede Orbiter - Artist view - Jupiter Ganymede Orbiter spacecraft - Artist view - Artist view of the probe Jupiter Ganymede Orbiter (JGO) orbit around Ganymede. This probe from the European Space Agency is one of the two probes of the EJSM (Europa Jupiter System Mission) mission. This mission proposes an in-depth exploration of Jupiter's system and its moons to study the emergence of habitable worlds around giant planets. JEO will explore Jupiter and the Io satellite, then further study Europe; JGO will explore Jupiter and the Callisto moon and will enter into orbit around Ganymede for a comprehensive and detailed study. Launch planned around 2020. Artist's concept of the Jupiter Ganymede Orbiter (JGO) spacecraft. With the Nasa's Jupiter Europa Orbiter (JEO) this European Space Agency 'spaceprobe will explore the Jupiter system. Possible launch in 2020
Exoplanete Alpha Centauri Bb - Artist's impression of the planet orbiting Alpha Centauri B: Artist's view of the planet Alpha Centauri Bb, also known as Gliese 559 Bb. Discovered in 2012 its existence is questioned. It would be orbiting the dwarf star Alpha Centauri B at a distance of 4.37 light years in the constellation Centauri. The planet is not in the habitable zone of the star, as it orbits far too close to the star. Alpha Centauri Bb was a proposed exoplanet orbiting the K-type main-sequence star Alpha Centauri B, located 4.37 light-years from Earth in the southern constellation of Centaurus. Its existence was announced in October 2012 but in October 2015, a scientific paper disproved the existence of the planet. Alpha Centauri B dominates the sky. Just above it to the right is a very bright star: Alpha Centauri A. And above that to the right is another star: our sun
