Travel through time with Bridgeman. Enhancing our fine art offerings are significant photographic collections: The Stapleton Collection, Fotomas Archive and the French archives of Charmet and Giraudon. The Stapleton Collection is a leading historical picture collection covering a wide range of subjects from photographic views of nineteenth century London and Paris, to anthropological studies from India, Afghanistan, Australia and Japan. Charmet comprises an unparalleled collection of over 400,000 images covering events, culture, science, people and places from every era with special focus on France. Known as the John Freeman Archive, Fotomas is an archive of over 250,000 images. Photographer John Freeman amassed this vast collection of images from his father's career as a photographer, followed by his own. The result is an amazing archive of social and cultural history, consisting of 250,000 black and white prints, glass plates and negatives, built up over some 80 years. Founded in 1887, Giraudon is a prestigious French picture archive dealing specifically in fine art, history, architecture and archaeology. Of special interest are the De Gaulle Archives, Dornac's portraits of famous French writers and Moreau's poignant photographs of the First World War.
