Image description

Giovanni ANSALDO (November 28, 1895 - September 1, 1969) Italian journalist, grandson of the entrepreneur of the same name, owner of the Genoese company Gio. Ansaldo & C., however he never had any interest in the "family" company. A frequent journalist from a young age, he collaborated with many illustrious names of Italian culture including Gaetano Salvemini, Leo Longanesi, he was a friend of Piero Gobetti. On the rise of fascism he manifested himself against his violent methods and for his anti-fascism he was sent to confinement. Later freed he integrated thanks to the conviction made by Leo Longanesi and was rehabilitated to the point of becoming, even while maintaining a certain autonomy of thought, a journalist on the radio of the regime. At the fall of fascism he did not join the republic of Salò and indeed sided with the opposite side; at the end of the war he continued his career as a journalist, among other positions becoming the director of "Il Mattino" in Naples.
