Foreign Service-Men In Hyde Park: Early Summer, 1940 (oil on canvas)

Creator: Rowntree, Kenneth (1915-97) Allied military personnel and sailors of different nationalities meet and walk among civilians in the shade of trees on a sunny day in Hyde Park, London, 1940. Kenneth Rowntree trained at the Ruskin School of Drawing where he was taught by Eric Ravilious. He was a British official war artist and, as a Conscientious Objector, travelled extensively in England and Wales depicting the people and places on the Home Front. In 1953, he painted scenes on the Coronation route for Queen Elizabeth II, who purchased some of his works.
