1877//Oil on canvas Repin chose Ivan Radov as a model, a goldsmith by profession and husband of his godmother. The title of the painting highlights the physical particularity of the model but also evokes the superstitions to which it is the object. This portrait was presented at the sixth exhibition of The Ambulants in 1878, where critics particularly noted the painter's freedom of touch. In the same year, the work was presented at the Universal Exhibition in Paris.
