Image description

Gold ring set with two diamonds and an emerald, presented to Captain T. F. Wilson by Colonel John Inglis at Lucknow, 1859 circa. During the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859) Colonel John Inglis of the 32nd Regiment assumed command of the Lucknow garrison after Sir Henry Lawrence’s death on 4 July 1857. An experienced officer, who had fought in the Sikhs Wars, he led the resistance until Sir Henry Havelock’s relief force arrived. Inglis was assisted in his endeavours by a staff officer, Captain Wilson of the 13th Bengal Native Infantry. In recognition of his services, Inglis presented him with this handsome ring.
