Image description

The Pantheon was a temple to all the gods of ancient Rome. It was originally built in the 1st century BC by the consul Agrippa, Prefect of Emperor Augustus. After a fire it was rebuilt in 80 AD by Emperor Domitian, and again in the early 2nd century AD by Emperor Hadrian. The dome has an astounding span of 43.2 m. Five rows of 28 coffers of diminishing size radiate from the central oculus. The dome rests on a cylinder of masonry wall.
