Video description

An edited record of the demarcation of the border between Uganda and Kenya from late 1959 to March 1960. The 6-month safari along the trackless border at the foot of the scarp included camels, donkeys and porters. An administrator from each country (L.E.Whitehouse, DC Turkana for Kenya, and John Cleave from Uganda) organised the logistics and trace cutting, and surveyors from each country did the markers and triangulation. 14.33 to 14.51 - Surveyor takes theodolite reading of adjacent hill, signals to adjoining hill survey team and takes further sightings. 14.53 to 15.52 - Construction of trig point station on hill top. UK 19 is marked on disc on top of column. 15.53 to 16.06 - Survey team leader seated with register, supervising African team members. 16.07 to 16.35 - Survey team's camel supply train in distance crossing scrubby hillside, and mountainous landscape of Northern Uganda. 16.55 to 18.16 - Camel supply train passing through mountain country. Close up of loaded camels in train and members of team on foot. 18.17 to 19.04 - Flat bush landscape. Two herdsmen drive herd of donkeys loaded with small sacks towards camera, and unload donkeys.
