Whole artwork view. Christ suffers his martyrdom nailed to the cross at the center of the scene, against the blue background peopled by angels collecting his blood, despairing and tearing their clothes; on the left find a place Mary of Cleophas and John the Evangelist, who hold up the Madonna, about to faint; Mary Magdalene is kneeling at the foot of the cross and caresses the feet of the Lord; to the right, the soldiers are competing for the robes of Christ; the biblical episode of the bronze snake is depicted into a lobed cornice in the decorative band on the left.
