The event was held on the 27th April to celebrate the 1748 Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle, which ended the War of the Austrian Succession; A Temple of Peace was erected for the event; The Temple was accidentally set alight by the fireworks and the event had to be called to an early close; Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks was also commissioned for the occasion;
