Paola's Pics

From Picasso in Venice to improbable Australian ballerinas, discover Marketing Assistant Paola's top clips and images in the Bridgeman archive

1. What is your role at Bridgeman?

This is probably the hardest question to answer for me. My job title at the moment is Marketing Assistant but I am also involved in sales, IT, Footage and Bridgeman Studio. I started at Bridgeman seven years ago as a receptionist and have moved around a lot, loving every single moment of it. I think Company Factotum is a good description of what I do.

2. What do you love most about the job?

I love to work (and play) with images and clips. I like to search for content with the idea that I can manipulate most of it. Matching similar content or making it stand out by contrasting it with something completely different is great fun.

3. What misconceptions do clients most commonly have about the archive?

Most people assume that the value of an image or a clip is in the originality of it. What is great about our company is the crafty care we put into our beloved archive: we source images and clips from museums and professional photographers. We create high resolution files, assign metadata and keywords, a top level custumer service and we match it with a knowledge that comes only with experience (a 40+ years long one!). The REAL value behind every single asset in the archive is the people that have worked on it, all professionals, passionate about art.

1. On the Beach (La Baignade) Picasso

I am Italian and come from lake Como with Venice four hours away by train. When I was studying I used to find every possible excuse to go there (there is always an exhibition to go to). Every time I was in Venice I went to the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation to say "hi" to this artwork, like you would do it with a friend. And the pleasant surprise of how beautiful this piece is never fails me. Over and over and over again.

2. The Japanese Macaque Monkeys enjoying a hot bath.

I am a bath rather than shower person. If you are a bath person you will appreciate the perfection of this moment: hot steamy water and fresh snow to cool your head down. I can't imagine anything more relaxing than this (and the first row monkey seems to share my feeling). I could stay there for days.... So So jealous of these clever monkeys!

3. Blue Nude III, Matisse

This is just so elegant, simple and of a brilliant tone of blue that makes it come alive.

What more can I say? It speaks for itself...

4. A Pack of Blue Dancers No.2, Holly Frean

This is one of my favourite Bridgeman Studio Artists. I love the simplicity, colour and the rhythm of the composition created by the series of cards.

I like cards - playing cards, solitaires, tarots. I like the idea of a series that can be combined in a million of different games (and in this case, new images).

I love this clip. It makes me smile (out loud) every single time I watch it. Priceless.

6. Swan, Johan Lilja

I think this image is a bit dark but perfect. . Perfect light, perfect fusion of animal and man, perfect composition. I love the colours, the contrasts, the medium. As I said. Perfect.
