Now representing: Eileen Cooper OBE RA

Bridgeman Images is now representing Eileen Cooper OBE RA for copyright, reproduction and licensing

Eileen Cooper OBE RA (b. 1953) is a British painter and printmaker, best known for her paintings encompassing themes of identity, feminism, family, life and death. She studied painting at Goldsmith's College in the early 1970s and went on to study at the Royal College of Art under the French-born British artist Peter de Francia. After graduating in 1977, she began to exhibit her work.

In the 1980s, Cooper rose to prominence, gaining recognition for her strong and passionate figuration. As a contemporary painter, Cooper’s works are often from a pronounced female perspective and (at times) display an autobiographical element. Her richly diverse images have been described as magic realism, simultaneously bold and tender, emotive, readily accessible, and timeless.

Cooper has taught in numerous artistic institutions including St Martins, Royal College of Art and the Royal Academy Schools. She became a Royal Academician in 2000 and in 2010 she was the first woman to be elected Keeper of the Royal Academy since the Academy began in 1768. She was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2016 Birthday Honours for services to the arts and arts education.

I confess I was rather ignorant about Bridgeman Images, but having met the team I’m delighted now to be represented by them. I feel Bridgeman really do understand artists and I am confident they will promote my work in an interesting and creative way. Bridgeman are well respected, with a considerable network and proven track record, yet as a company they remain ambitious and proactive for the artists with whom they work.
